How to play

If you have played other styles like Hold’em, the game should be intuitively clear. The value of each hand depends on the cards, but suits do not matter. The lowest is a high card, and the best is a royal flush. 

Regardless of their number, players have to beat the dealer. In the beginning, everyone places their ante bet. Then, the cards are dealt, so each player and the dealer get 5 cards. 

All of the cards are face down except for the dealer’s hole card. Once it is revealed, you may look at your hand and decide where to go further. Importantly, other players may not see the cards you get. There are only two possible actions:

  • folding (giving up your ante);
  • playing (placing another bet which is 2X the ante).

Then, the dealer reveals the rest of their cards. The total is calculated, and the winner gets paid. That’s all! You do not have to devise any complicated strategies to win. The rule of thumb is to raise when you have a pair or higher. Fold when you have less than the qualifying hand for the dealer — the one with a king or an ace (see above).

Rules

  1. The ante bet is obligatory, and you may use an extra progressive side bet costing $1. 
  2. Every player gets 5 cards, and so does the dealer. Only one of the dealer’s cards is revealed. 
  3. Look at your cards, but do not share this information with others. 
  4. Decide about folding or raising. In the first case, you forfeit your cards and all bets made. “Raising” involves a new higher wager equal to the ante bet doubled. 
  5. The dealer’s remaining cards are turned over. They qualify when there is a king or an ace.
  • The dealer qualifies and wins: you lose all bets. 
  • The dealer qualifies and loses: the ante bet pays 1:1, and the raise pays according to the table.
  • The dealer does not qualify: you win 1:1 on the ante, while they raise pushes. 
  • A tie: both bets push. 
  • The progressive side bet pays based on the hand value.
